At least SOMETHING is protecting my brain

I've always been an avid reader, and apparently that's why I still have such a great memory. Good readers appear better at retaining cognitive skills -- even when suffering nervous system damage from significant lead exposure, which usually exacts a significant toll on "skills involving attention, memory, mental calculations and decision making."

My brain has been through a lot. A serious overdose of a very toxic chemical. A week in a coma. More than a decade of depression and the resultant brain degradation. Daily overdoses of stress. But apparently I've built up enough of a cognitive reserve to protect my brain from the worst of it.
